The long wait was over; the FL Gators finally took the field today against the University of Miami (OH). Like the rest of Gator Nation, I too was very disappointed with what I saw. True we beat the Redhawks, 34-12, but it was the games inside of the game that perturbed me. First of all, what in the world was going through the minds of center, Mike Pouncey, and quarterback, John Brantley? The two combined for at least 10 bad snaps and a few fumbles. Pouncey, who held down the guard position for the past couple of years, seemed like he was in a different world. Some snaps looked like he bowled the football back to Brantley. While the play essentially begins with the center position, I won't give Pouncey all the blame. As a quarterback, Brantley was supposed to be able to control at least some of them.
If it wasn't for the team speed of the FL Gators, we probably wouldn't have able to pull a victory out today. Janoris Jenkins picked a pass in the 2nd quarter and took it 67 yards to score the Gators first touchdown. It was obviously a momemtum changer. Early in the 4th quarter, Jeff Demps exploded to the right side for a 72 yard touchdown run to put the Gators up 27-12. The other three Gator touchdowns resulted from Redhawk misfortunes. Two of which came from a shortened field in which Miami (OH) turned the ball over. The one that made the game 34-12 was a 25 yard heave that bobbled around in the end zone and eventually landed in the hands of Chris Rainey.
FL Gators 34
Miami (OH) 12

I didn't get a chance to watch much of the game but obviously the Gators laid an egg in the opening game. The Gators are young and they will get better each week. The biggest thing that happened today is that Florida looked very vulnerable and I think that gives the other teams in the SEC more confidence in facing them.
One thing to note is the quality of the coordinators that Urban Meyer currently has. If you look at Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong and then look at what Urban has now I feel it is a huge downgrade and that's one thing to watch this year IMO.
